ENIGMA is a co-production with ARD Degeto and Bayerischer Rundfunk. It is based on the drama "Variations Enigmatiques" by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, which Schlöndorff had previously staged at the Renaissance Theater in Berlin with the same cast
